residencies

The academy is not made for creatures who thrive in the dark. The academy forces us into modes of knowing, doing, and being that prevent us from seeing the stars. It is hard to see what is interesting or important or imaginative when our theories and methods and dreams are washed out with the bright light of a dominating glare – even, perhaps especially, if that glare is reasonable or radical.

We want to counter academic light pollution. Inspired by the tradition of artist residencies, we custom-make spaces for social scientists and others to go with their theories, methods, and dreams into the dark. Through experimentations with form (including forms that give back locally), residents work in and with places that question their very will-to-know. Collectively building our capacity to re-form, re-group, re-turn.

We are currently preparing a space to host residents in Aotearoa. If you are interested, send us an email! Let us know what you are currently working with and we can take it from there <3
